本片为李翰祥“短篇什锦"式影片之一，共分三大段：《萧翼赚兰亭》、《蕙莲》、《小神仙》，风格分别为雅、淫、趣。
《蕙莲》以林伟图设计谋杀李鹏飞为序幕，以李在桥上看奇书《金瓶梅》展开剧情。主要描述西门庆引诱仆人来旺妻子蕙莲的经过，深入地表现了酒肉男女的淫邪之念。由于导演有意迎合观众，中有不少裸露和意淫镜头。《小神仙》则又由偷牛、捉奸和小神仙同药师之间的斗法三个小故事组成，以通俗趣味为主，喜剧效果非常高。
